About the event

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anyone that owns or works with dogs and wants to increase their own awareness and understanding of canine body language. It also comes with an 80-page student downloadable e-manual, and a 4-hour CPD accredited certificate. Cost £55

What do we learn?

This workshop will explore what dogs are really communicating and whether our beliefs are in fact accurate. We will explore canine communication in a way that you never have before. We will go through a journey of discovery and look at what each component of the dog might be communicating, what emotions dogs feel and dog to dog communication.

It is also important to remember that some behaviours can mean different things in different contexts, and at the end of the workshop you will begin to spot a number of these behaviours in your own dogs. We encourage you to look at your dog as a whole.

Why should we attend this workshop?

One of the main motivators for creating this workshop is because thousands of people are hospitalised each year as a result of dog bites. Even more distressing is that some of these hospitalisations, sadly result in death. We believe that by being able to recognise subtle canine body language we can begin to pre-empt our dog’s behaviour and change the situation so that our dogs have no need to escalate their behaviour to a bite.

What do we look at: - Section One

Understanding the dog – we will Look at the eyes, the ears, the tail, the coat, the posture, and the mouth of the dog and discuss why dogs do what they do.

Section Two

Canine Emotions Deep Dive – we will look at the emotions of the dog, why behave the way that they do, what is arousal and how to manage our dog’s arousal, we will look at stress, fear and much more. We will also look at bite prevention and how to read the signs that a dog will give us to avoid them biting.

Section Three

Dog to Dog Interactions – we will Look at play, what is appropriate and what is not, how to manage meets and greets with our dogs on and off leash, a dog’s chain of approach and much more.

Section Four

Video analysis- we will watch a few videos of dogs’ interactions and discuss what is happening in each video clip as a group.

You will leave the workshop with a wealth of information, an increased knowledge, and an improved understanding of how to read dogs accurately and efficiently.
